Why we love it

stretchy wrap twin carrier ergonomic newborn baby sling

Carrying a newborn in a stretchy wrap feels like almost nothing else. You have your baby snuggled up and held close and the fabric just moulds around you both. If you have more than one baby do you need to miss out on this feeling? No! You can use a stretchy wrap to carry two babies together!

You can use a stretchy wrap to carry one at a time or two babies together. Both use the same basic way to tie; nothing needs to change! Stretchy wraps can be an ideal way of carrying one or two babies as needed.

You can pre-tie everything, leave it on all day and put babies in and out as you need, leaving you able to get on with your day.

Tips and tricks

What type of stretchy wrap

If you want to carry two babies in a stretchy wrap we would recommend looking for a good quality one with two way stretch. Two way stretchy wraps stretch both across the width and along the length. Ideally you are looking for a brand with excellent elasticity, and not too stretchy so it feels firm and supportive. Elasticity is how well the wrap pulls itself back into shape after you stretch it. A stretchy wrap with these qualities can be easier to master for carrying two babies. They will last you longer than a thinner or less elastic stretchy. We feel that the JPMBB original is an ideal option. However we have seen JPMBB basics, Hana, Lifft and Izmi wraps and more successfully used to carry two babies.

What age babies can be carried together in a stretchy wrap

You can carry two babies together from birth until there is no longer room for them on your front, or until it’s no longer comfortable.

If your babies were premature or have additional health needs we advise speaking to a consultant about carrying options. It may be possible to carry them in a stretchy wrap. However, you may find professional support helpful to ensure whatever option you choose will meet their needs. You can access professional support in person; we offer 15 minute free phone consultations, longer paid for options, and video consultations. Get in touch if this would be helpful.

Many people find carrying two babies together in a stretchy wrap works for several weeks or even a few months. How long it works for you will depend on your babies sizes and your own shape. If you have a broad chest you can fit bigger babies on your front!

Once you can no longer carry two babies in a stretchy wrap, you can still use it to carry one at a time.

How do I carry two babies together in a stretchy wrap

You use the same basic stretchy wrap tie to carry two babies as to carry one baby. However, each baby will sit in one side of the cross on your front. You may need to play around with where they sit on your chest, especially if you have large breasts.

Sitting two babies in the cross of the stretchy wrap still gives you options for positioning and being respectful of your babies natural position. You can use each side as a hammock pass. A hammock pass is where both legs come out of the bottom and baby is chest to chest. Or you can use each side as a cross pass. This is where the baby’s legs sit either side of the fabric with baby chest to chest. You can even position both babies seated sideways or off centred. There are many possibilities. Simply ensure that they’re safe and have clear airways. These possibilities make it easier to respect their natural position and preferences.

Carrying after birth

If you are carrying two babies in a stretchy wrap soon after giving birth please listen carefully to your body. However your babies arrived your body has been through a lot and you need to be respectful of that. Start gently, with short periods or carrying just one baby. If you have had a caesarean birth keep the sling high and tight to avoid pressure on the healing wound. Enlist other people too! Slings can be a great tool for allowing other family members to hold and bond with newborn babies.

If you’d like to try using a stretchy wrap with two babies, we have a free stretchy wrap hire scheme you can see our range to Hire, on our Try Before You Buy Scheme and to Buy!
