Many brands of baby carrier feature the ability to cross shoulder straps. This can be a brilliant feature, especially for the more narrow shouldered and petite parents out there. However, sometimes people end up with crossed carrier straps positioned in ways that aren’t comfy.

Crossing the shoulder straps in your baby carrier

When crossing shoulder straps on your baby carrier we suggest you do it like this:

  1. put shoulder strap over your shoulder on the bony part away from your neck
  2. push all the slack over your shoulder
  3. reach behind you with the opposite hand and pull the shoulder strap DOWN towards floor
  4. still pulling down, bring strap diagonally across your back and clip it in
  5. tighten buckle to ensure baby is held securely
  6. repeat for the other shoulder strap

If you simply pull the shoulder strap diagonally across your back the strap will sit on your neck. This can become painful after a while. Ideally your shoulder strap will sit in the middle of your shoulder and the cross on your back will be roughly level with the bottom of your shoulder blades.
