Gill Rapley

Gill Rapley PhD

Gill became a health visitor at the age of 22. She has been supporting parents with introducing solid food her whole career but when she had her her three babies she experienced change in her practice with the more that she learned from being a mother. When she returned to health visiting, her practice had changed and she created the concept of baby-led weaning.

She then undertook and masters degree investigating whether babies would spontaneously start solid food without adult intervention and then studied for her PhD with her research focusing on the differing experience for babies of being spoon-fed or self-feeding. Her book is recognised as ‘the bible” of baby-led weaning and her research is well recognised and published in several academic journals. Gill is supporting us in ensuring our weaning training module is excellent and evidence-based and trained some of our consultants in person during 2017.
